Volunteer Driver Tom Larsen Saves the Day
with a Blessed Opportunity

ECHHO recently received a request from a patient who needed to get to Saint Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham. The patient had to check in no later than 4pm for very important surgery the following morning. We in the office were faced with the seemingly impossible task of finding a driver that would be willing to travel such a great distance. By what must have been a providential opportunity for the patient, Tom Larsen and his wife were going to visit a friend in Bellingham on that very day and were happy to take the patient along!

Defensive Driving Course offered by AARP

For ECHHO volunteers who have not yet attended our two day defensive driving course, there is an easy and convenient alternative way to do this. AARP offers an on-line course that is easy and can be done as you feel like it at your own pace. The cost is similar to the two-day classes taken through ECHHO and upon completion, you may be entitled to a discount on your auto insurance. Check out AARP’s website www.aarpdriversafety.org for more information.

A Message from Executive Director Lori Oberlander

It has come to my attention that at least one volunteer has concerns about our car donation program and how much they charge for their services--suspecting around 50%. The answer is that if the car donation program does not make any money on the sale of a car donated to our program, they pick up the costs. If they make more than $500, we get 75% of the sale and if it is sold for under $500, we get 70% of the sale. I hope that answers any question or concerns you may have about the program. For more information about the V-dac (Vehicle Donation Program), visit their website www.v-dac.com.
